Camping has come a long way in the last 50 years. You may have had a family tent that took two hours to set up and seemed to leak every time we got a summer shower. Maybe your family was one of the lucky ones to own a “state of the art” 16 foot trailer. Camping trips always produced excitement about the great adventure and wonderful family memories. Campers felt they were lucky to camp in campgrounds that boasted an “outside biffy”, and water taps only minutes from the campsite. Many a flashlight was lost down the “biffy” during those night time bathroom runs. Most cooking was done over an open fire or on the reliable Coleman stove where even the simplest food tasted fabulous.

Times may have changed but camping in one of Manitoba’s great campgrounds is still an adventure with great memories of time spent with family and friends. MACAP, Manitoba’s association of independently owned and operated campgrounds, have campgrounds and resorts located in all areas of the province and offer a variety of amenities from non-serviced sites to 50 amp electrical full serviced sites. Whether you want to visit relatives or participate in one of the many community fairs or special events around the province, MACAP campgrounds have over 4000 camping spots available. The choice is really up to you.

With our autumns offering some of the most beautiful colours and weather, fall camping is a great way to lengthen the camping season. Almost every community has a fall supper where the locals offer some of the best home cooking available and bird watching and photography becomes the sport of choice.

There are no “cookie cutter” style campgrounds here. Every campground is unique, offering different services to their campers. Everything from swimming pools, hot tubs, miniature golf, river tubing, restaurants, canoe and kayak rentals to wireless internet service is available. The one thing that all MACAP campgrounds have in common is the personal service that our owner/operators offer. They are always available to help you.

RV’s have definitely improved since those first pull behind trailers. They are larger, made of lighter materials and can have every luxury imaginable. When you travel with one of these RV’s you are traveling in your own 5 star accommodations. You have all the conveniences of home while visiting the diverse areas of our province.

Visit around the campfire during a warm summer evening or participate in one of the campground events which differ from campground to campground. Enjoy watching the sun rise or set over one of our great lakes, participate in movie nights, concerts, pancake breakfasts, firework displays or horseshoe tournaments. Camping can become addictive. If you decide to give camping a try, remember these tips. You must always have a sense of humour and remember to leave behind your watch. Stay up late, scold less and laugh more. Family members of all ages tend to connect with each other more when they are away from their normal routine enjoying a simpler lifestyle. The general consensus among camping families is that camping tends to bring the family closer together with more communication and the sharing of good times.

A camping vacation can be a great way to travel with children. They can go out to play or take part in campground activities. There are likely to be other children to meet and new places to explore. Children of all ages will enjoy an old-fashioned campfire complete with stories, songs and stargazing. Visit our website www.GoRVingManitoba.com for a complete list of our campgrounds and information on how to contact them. Enjoy the seasons. Make beautiful Manitoba memories while living the camping and RV lifestyle.
